Choosing a shutter speed for shooting an image is very important. The shutter speed selected wheather automatically by the camera or manually under the users control can have a big impact on how the final image will appear. FotographicHQ gets it first facelift in the shape of the Xtremeblogg wordpress theme from Justdreamweaver.com I have modified it slightly by giving it a custom header graphic and changing a few of the CSS styles. Unfortunately, since I use a graphic header, theres no easy way back to the home page, so while I find out how to address this problem, I have placed a link home in the Blogroll section. Not ideal but it shouldn’t be for long.

Photoshop Basics: How to Crop

This is the first of a series of articles where I will cover basics on how to use Photoshop. I’m using Photoshop CS4 but it should be applicable to all versions with minor variations.
The first thing to do is set the cursors for accurate placement. This can be acheived by going into the Edit menu and selecting Preferences. The 5th menu item is Cursors Select ‘Precise’ for Other Cursors. This will change the crop tools icon from the normal square cursor which represents cropping ‘L’s to a much more useful target style cursor with an active pixel in the middle.

The mouse may have revolutionised computing back in the old WIMP (Windows, Icons, Mouse and Pointing Device) days but it’s quite inefficient in busy workflows. I have made it a point to know at least a few of the keyboard shortcuts for all of the applications I use. You already know a few, Ctrl-X for cut, Ctrl-C for copy and Ctrl-V for paste. My name is Steve Smith and I’ve been involved in Photography, Graphics and Typography for longer than I can remember. On this site I aim to spread the word on all things Photographic and Graphical with tips and tricks, reviews and opinions. I’d like to share observations on the industry as well as some real-world experiences I have or will have had in the course of my business.
